Assenede – Bassevelde, Belgium. Photos: Ana Villas Boas, 2015.

From the bedroom window, the sun wanted to fool me.
Shrunken under the warm of the blankets
Waiting for the courage to keep
The running of the day.

The running along the plain at sea level,
Flooding so many kinds of seeds by people who speak:
“only Flemish”
“only Flemish”
And nothing else.

Lost in the field.
Seeking, seeking for the way to back home in the village labyrinth
Full of confusion directions,
Empty of any questions,
When all seemed the same imaginary sea!

Running and stopping many times,
Crossing with Flemish people who speak:
“only Flemish”
“only Flemish”
[the woman repeated],
Like a stranger foreign in the village.
Village that was all mine one day,
At the visionary land made of sea.
